How To: Stop getting junk snail mail

Spend less time recycling catalogs you never look through and shredding unwanted credit card bills. The Queercents blog lists 5 ways to reduce the volume of junk snail mail that stuffs your postal box, including pay-for services that contact select mailers for you to remove you from their lists, the general 1-888-5-OPTOUT phone number and forwarding address cards for the people who used to live at your address and still receive mail there.

Time is money. According to the Center for a New American Dream, each of us will spend an average of eight months of our lives dealing with junk mail. Take 20 minutes and get off the lists!

In addition to getting you off mailing lists, the mentioned GreenDimes service will even plant a tree for you once a month. Nice. —Gina Trapani
